Hurricane Sandy

December 30, 2012 in Uncategorized

Hey there Appaman fan,

As you know, NYC was his hard during Hurricane Sandy this past weekend. Our Lower East Side offices are currently out of power and not operational until further notice. Therefore, our wholesale and web orders will be delayed until we are up and running again.

Thank you for you patience, and we hope you and your family were able to stay safe during the storm!

It's Go Time

December 30, 2012 in Uncategorized

This summer we challenged moms everywhere to roll up their sleeves and attempt to take the Appaman Monkey Bar Challenge. The participation “fee” was a $25.00 donation that went to Alex’s Lemonade Stand for Childhood Cancer. We called upon people to embrace their childhood and regain those muscles we all once had. Just under 100 people signed up and we were thrilled to be instrumental in getting women out on the playground, challenging themselves and goofing off with their kids in the name of charity.

To complete the challenge, participants are expected to send in a video of them on the bars. Here is Lynn’s video. She gave it her all. Check it out:

Thanks to all who participated!

Pay it Forward – Stephanie Fishman

December 30, 2012 in Uncategorized

For Stephanie’s “Pay it Forward,” she chose to donate to Volunteer Center of Bergen County, Inc.

In her words:”Every holiday season, I participate in their ‘All Wrapped Up’ program, which connects donors to local individuals in Bergen County, New Jersey who are in need of a little holiday cheer! Every year I ‘adopt’ 2 seniors/disabled individuals, and I get a wish list from their caseworker as to what they may need. Most years, a warm winter coat is first on the list, along with basic necessities and grocery store gift cards. When I meet with the caseworker to drop off the gifts, I get to see the excitement in the faces of some of the members at the senior or rehab center. I feel very lucky to be able to help someone have a better day. I always want to contribute to this organization through other programs as well, so your donation to the Volunteer Center of Bergen County, Inc can help in so many ways — a literacy class for a single mom, a training session for a mentor, a service call for a repair in a disabled individual’s home — so THANK YOU Appaman, for your immense generosity and kindness!”

You’re welcome, Stephanie, and we are sure your charity will appreciate the donation. If you would like more info on this charity click here.

Appaman loves Red Hook

December 28, 2012 in Uncategorized

Although Hurricane Sandy is out of the news it is definitely not out of the lives of many here on the East Coast.   Her wrath was felt far and wide and many are still dealing with picking up the pieces.  A couple weeks ago Appaman did a fundraiser on our site where 15% of all sales were collected over the course of a week and this money is now being donated to a relief effort.   We chose Restore Red Hook.  www.restoreredhook.org
We felt a kinship to this organization because it serves entrepreneurs.  The vendors that will benefit from Restore Red Hook lost their businesses due to the storm.  This not only hurts their lives but the lives of their employees, their neighborhood, and the general morale of the area.  We hope that our donation will help in the effort to get Red Hook back on its feet.

Norway — Land of the Vikings, the Midnight Sun, and Appaman founder Harald Husum — is now home to Appaman’s first European retail venture. We’re thrilled to announce that our shop in Stanvanger is officially open for business!

The Stavanger store features a wall mural by graffiti artist Kim Stokke, who designed this awesome VW Beetle exclusively for Appaman (along with a miniature in-store version).

We are so excited to announce the expansion of Appaman into the world of showrooms. In January we opened a beautiful corporate showroom. We turned to the design savvy of Jennifer Ward of Minor Details to help build out the space and the result is fresh, fun and perfect for displaying Appaman. We then hired the lovely Stephanie Fishman to run said showroom. Stephanie is the perfect addition to the Appaman team. She has been in the children’s industry for many years and she is as sweet as she is smart so it is a very happy marriage. Come check us out at 33 west 34th St. Suite 308 or call for an appt. 212 695 0762. She can also be reached on email at stephanie@appaman.com.

Welcome aboard Stephanie we are happy to have you.

Pay it Forward – Erica Atkins

December 21, 2012 in Uncategorized

For Erica’s Seven Weeks of Giving contribution, she chose to donate to Mack and Third.

Erica says,

“Mack and Third is a non-profit organization that provides assistance to the homeless population of Detroit, Michigan, along with the food banks and shelters that serve them. Their annual summer concert Mack and Third Live, is an event which provides food, toiletries, medical screenings and dental services to homeless attendees.

I discovered Mack and Third while listening to an interview of the artist Kem. Raised in Detroit, he overcame addiction and homelessness to eventually become a successful singer, songwriter, and producer. I am always touched by stories of people who triumph over formidable circumstances and use their platform to help others. Mack and Third’s commitment to the Detroit community is a shining example of this.”

Appaman's 7 Weeks of Giving Starts Now

December 19, 2012 in Uncategorized

Appaman loves this time of year. There is something in the spirit of the city that lifts us up and brings out the best in everyone. Whatever it is, we are all in!

To continue our tradition of paying it forward, we are starting the season out with two large donations to two charities we believe in and do our best to support whenever possible:

The first one is Baby Buggy. Baby Buggy is a wonderful organization that redistributes gently used products and apparel to families in need. They have been working overtime with the recent disaster from Hurricane Sandy and we were happy to ship them boxes of new Appaman gear for their families.
The other company is KIDS (Kids in Distressed Situations). This is also an organization that comes to the aid of families in need during crisis situations. KIDS also received a large clothing donation from Appaman for children in need as a result of Hurricane Sandy.
Check back over the next seven weeks to see what other charities we will be supporting during this season of giving.
