Five Weeks of Giving 2014 – James J. Peters V.A. Medical Center

December 18, 2014 in Appaman News

For her Five Weeks of Giving donation, Stephanie has chosen to pay it forward to the James J. Peters V.A. Medical Center in Kingsbridge Road in the Bronx.

Stephanie says:

”My Papa was a proud member of the United States Army. He has used the resources at this VA Hospital countless times over the course of his adult life, most especially the last few years. He had a great fondness for his doctors at this hospital, and the care they provide to veterans.  When it came time to sell his house, he donated his elaborate book collection to the library at the hospital.  His last year or so, he unfortunately spent a bit of time as a patient here. He was so happy for the luck that came my way that brought me to Appaman and would love to hear stories about what was going on with the company and to look through the latest season’s catalogs with me! Sadly, my Papa passed away on June 8, 2013, but he would be so proud to have this donation given by Appaman to a place that means so much to him.”

Five Weeks of Giving 2014 – The Sarcoma Foundation of America

December 15, 2014 in Appaman News

Alyssa’s Pay it Forward is in honor of her high school friend Dan. This past year, Dan was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer. A successful surgery removed his kidney and the tumor around it. He underwent chemotherapy for eight months and has just returned to work!

Alyssa says:

“I have chosen The Sarcoma Foundation of America. The SFA supports sarcoma patients like Dan by funding research and increasing awareness of the disease. They also work with pharmaceutical companies to develop improved treatments and help with educating patients.

If you are looking for a place to donate to this holiday season, please support my friend Dan and others who are battling sarcoma.”

Five Weeks of Giving 2014 – New York Cares

December 12, 2014 in Appaman News

Erica’s choice for her Five Weeks of Giving donation is an organization called New York Cares.

Erica says:

“New York Cares was founded in the 1980s with a focus on social services.  They have grown to become NYC’s largest volunteer management organization.   A fraction of the services offered include tutoring, college preparation, adult education, job training, community projects, coat drives, and environmental projects.  They run volunteer projects for about 1,300 public schools, nonprofit organizations, and city agencies.  I am pleased to donate to an organization that does so much to support at-risk individuals and communities throughout New York.”

Please consider New York Cares in this season of giving. For more information, you can visit newyorkcares.org.

Five Weeks of Giving 2014 – The Breast Cancer Research Foundation

December 8, 2014 in Appaman News

Kathleen would like to donate to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for Appaman’s Five Weeks of Giving tradition.

Kathleen says:

“The Breast Cancer Research Foundation was founded by cosmetics executive Evelyn H. Lauder in 1993. Donations are used to fund clinical and genetic research on breast cancer, including trials for new drug treatments and research projects in vaccine development. This is an important charity to me because my great-grandmother & my grandmother from my mother’s side both passed away from breast cancer and there is a high risk of development for all females in my family.”

This donation will be made in memory of Kathleen’s grandmother, Mildred Behen Loehr.

For more information on this charity, please visit bcrfcure.org and consider them when giving this season.

Five Weeks of Giving 2014 – Citymeals

December 6, 2014 in Appaman News

Lynn’s charity of choice for Appaman’s annual Five Weeks of Giving is Citymeals.

Lynn says:

“As a young girl I remember going weekly with my mom to deliver meals on wheels in suburban Detroit.  At the time, I wasn’t aware of the impact and considered it just part of our routine.  I realize now that being included in this generous use of our time was a great life lesson.  I want to donate to Meals on Wheels as an adult, and in honor of my mom, who instilled in me the importance of giving back. Service to others is a wonderful lesson to teach our youth.”

Citymeals is one of the largest meals-on-wheels programs in the U.S.  They provide 2 million meals to 18,000 elderly New yorkers each year.  Beyond the nutritional value of the meals there is a human companionship value that is priceless.

Consider Citymeals in this season of giving. For more information, please visit citymeals.org.

Introducing…Kathleen!

November 25, 2014 in Appaman News

It’s time to introduce Team Appaman’s newest member: production manager Kathleen Reardon. An 8-year New Yorker by way of Kansas, Kathleen has been interested in fashion since she learned how to hold scissors, a skill she acquired in order to make her own paper doll clothes.

Today, Kathleen is still using those finely-tuned coordination and logistical skills to turn Appaman designs from creative ideas into actual products you can shop for, buy, and wear. As our in-house production manager, Kathleen works behind the scenes to make sure that the fabrics are dyed & woven, garments are sewn, design & fit adjustments are made, and that the completed garments are labeled and packed on freighters or planes on time to be shipped across the ocean to our warehouse, where they’ll be distributed to stores around the country.

When she’s not busy making fashion magic happen, Kathleen likes traveling, hiking, cooking, crafting, home decorating, going to baseball games,  and — naturally — shopping. We love having her around the office for her positive attitude and her ability to tackle any kind of project that comes her way. We also like the constant supply of candy she keeps in her desk, but that’s really just an extra bonus.

Levi McConaughey Wears Appaman’s Mod Suit at the Hollywood Walk of Fame

November 18, 2014 in In the news, Press, Star Style

Appaman’s Mod Suit has hit the red carpet once again. On Monday, November 17, Matthew McConaughey, along with his wife, Camila Alves, and their kids, Levi, Vida, and Livingston, celebrated the unveiling of Matthew’s star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.

The entire family looked as fashion-forward as ever in coordinating shades of white, blue, grey, and charcoal. The girls wore dresses and the guys wore suits. We may be biased, but we think that the couple’s oldest son, longtime Appaman fan Levi, age 6, stole the show in his classic Appaman Mod Suit in Vintage Black.

With a stylish slim cut, comfortable adjustable waistband, and timeless charcoal grey color, the Mod Suit in Vintage Black is one of Appaman’s best selling pieces. Whether you go classic with a crisp, collared Standard Shirt in White (a la Levi), or add a rock-and-roll spin with your favorite sneakers and graphic tee, it always looks great.

It’s not the first time Levi has been spotted in Appaman’s Fine Tailoring Collection. In April, he rocked the Mod Suit in Chambray on the red carpet of a charity gala, putting his dad’s signature laid-back twist on the formal look, and earning the title of People’s “New Fave Mini Style Star.

Even as a little tyke, Levi loved to matched his dad’s dapper style. Here he is wearing the jacket of his Mod Suit in Mist, another Appaman fan favorite, back in 2011:

Levi’s love of Fine Tailoring extends to outerwear, too! In 2012, stayed warm in his trusty Appaman Pea Coat in Charcoal, as pictured here, on a playdate with pal Louis Bullock and mom Sandra. (They must have been swapping style secrets – we later saw Louis make a red carpet appearance in a Mod Suit of his own.)

We love watching this cute kid’s style evolve.

Team Appaman’s Volunteer Day at Baby Buggy

November 4, 2014 in NYC

Many friends and fans of Appaman know that one of our favorite charities is Baby Buggy. Established by Jessica Seinfeld in 2001, Baby Buggy works with a network of over 100 established community-based organizations across the country to distribute new and gently used essentials, from cribs and strollers to clothing and bottles. Donations come from both individuals and from companies like Appaman.

After donations come in, the goods need to be sorted, folded and packed so that Baby Buggy can distribute them according to the needs of their network of organizations. Volunteers are often needed to help with this part of the process, so the staff at Appaman HQ thought it would be fun to head over to Baby Buggy’s NYC headquarters, located in the Garment District of Manhattan, and lend a hand ourselves for a couple of hours.

We had a great time and loved getting a chance to go behind the scenes at a great organization. Thanks to everyone at Baby Buggy for hosting our crew. Keep doing what you do!
