Valentine’s Day Ideas for Kids

February 10, 2016 in Holiday Style

Appaman Valentine's Day Kids

Besides Halloween, Valentine’s Day is one of our favorite holidays to celebrate with the kids. While February 14th might have been a day of romance before your kids were born, now it’s become a time to have fun and create traditions with the little ones in your family. Kids love holidays and there are tons of fun ways to create memories and celebrate with them on Valentine’s Day. Here, some fun Valentine’s Day ideas on how to spend this special day with your sweeties.

Vanilla Bean Raspberry Cupcakes

Bake Something Special
Getting messy with the kids in the kitchen is such a fun way to relax and bond. The first thing you need to do is not to stress about the mess! Let the dishes pile up and who cares if flour gets all over the floor. We love this yummy vanilla bean and raspberry cupcake recipe from the Pearls on a String blog. Cupcakes this pretty require a special tablescape, too. Toss some glitter on the table (don’t worry, you can vacuum later) and get out the sill straws. Invite friends over to help you and the kids devour the cupcakes.

Appaman Valentine's Day

Schedule a Date With Your Kids
A romantic night with your sweetheart might be a distant memory when you have kids, but that’s ok. Who wants to pay double the price for dinner just because it’s on February 14th anyway? How about planning a date day with the entire family? Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday this year, so you can make day of it. Go see a movie, take a walk in the park or just put your phone on airplane mode for the day and focus on quality time. Project Motherhood’s Allison Cooper pictured above with son Branden (wearing Appaman’s Shoulder Panel Sweater and Flannel Shirt) has refocused her celebration of Valentine’s Day since her son was born to include the whole family.

Appaman Valentine's Day Boys

Get Dressed Up for a Fancy Dinner
Kids love any excuse to play dress up. Pull out their fancy party clothes– a pretty dress for the girls and a sharp suit for the boys — and have Valentine’s Day dinner at home. Put on some old school love songs, like Frank Sinatra or Nat King Cole have a dance party with the kids. If you and the hubby want to relive your pre-kid days, have two dinner seatings. Serve the kids dinner early then put them to bed before you eat. Pop open the Prosecco and take your sweet time dining.

Spring Preview: Kids Fashion from Appaman

February 3, 2016 in New This Season

Appaman Spring 2016 Style Preview We know we’re still technically in the middle of winter, but we’re so excited about our new kids fashion collection for spring, that we had to share a preview! From deep sea exploration to artful fantasies and preppy rebels, our spring kids clothing has something for every style. Our design team created a collection we can’t wait to see on all of our Appaman fans. Here’s your first look at Appaman Spring 2016.

Appaman Boys Spring 2016

Boys Spring Style
For spring, we loved the idea of sending our boys into the deep sea. From octopus and other sea creature printed t-shirts and chambray short sleeve button down shirts (great for layering!) with angler fish and sea captain prints, the nautical theme got a street style twist for the new season. We also threw some fun pirate-inspired style into the mix in the form of graphic tees emblazoned with Blackbeard the pirate and a very tough looking pirate bulldog. Aaaar matey! Also on tap for boys, very cool dip-dye t-shirts to reflect the stylish ombre trend, rebel Polo shirts and our best-selling skinny twill pants in an array of spring-y shades.

Appaman Girls Spring Style

Girls Spring Style
Nothing says spring like pretty shades of pink, fun punchy prints and cool hints of metallic. Our new girls fashion collection for spring 2016 has a little bit of all three of those. Our designers put a youthful spin on Miro’s surrealistic prints with fruit-printed rompers, dresses and skirts. For early spring, girls will love the soft wearable double knit collection of pink bomber jackets, shorts and shift dresses. For the athleisure-minded little ladies, the new Salmon Rose colored jogger pants are a sporty chic go-to pant she’ll wear with literally everything. We happen to love it paired with the Unicorn Circle Tee in Heather Grey (warning: we predict this tee is going to fly off the shelves, so snap it up while you can).

Appaman Fine Tailoring Spring 2016

Spring Fine Tailoring
You can count on our Fine Tailoring collection this season to deliver classic style done the Appaman way. For all your spring and summer formal events, we’ve got you covered. From mod suits for boys–with trousers or shorts–to pretty dresses for girls in a palette of muted purple and grey, our spring Fine Tailoring collection hits on all of the right notes.

The Appaman Spring 2016 kids fashion collection is launching online and in stores this February.  Since Punxsutawney Phil failed to see his shadow this year, we are in for an early spring! It’s not too soon to get excited about stowing away those winter layers and investing in some key spring pieces.

Kids Fashion Trends 2016: New Year’s Style Resolutions

January 4, 2016 in Appaman Style

Appaman Kids Fashion New Years Style IdeasWhile getting the kids out the door on time in the morning may be your top priority when it comes to new year’s resolutions for the family, we love the idea of setting some style resolutions, too. We know how much they love wearing the same jeans and t-shirt every single day, but try breaking your kids out of their fashion rut and you might be surprised by the results.

Wear More Color
For 2016, resolve to add more color to their wardrobe. And no, grey doesn’t count. Not only do bright pops of color look awesome with more neutral shades, but there’s evidence pointing to the benefit colors have on our  moods. Orange can inspire social behavior and can put others at ease. The color yellow is thought to make people feel happier and promote motivation and concentration. The color blue can have a calming effect (great for threenagers!). Green is associated with health and well-being and the color red is thought to increase athletic ability.

Ready to add some color to your kid’s life? Shop these cool kids clothes:

Olive Vest for Boys from Appaman

East Side Vest in Warm Olive: A pop of yellow looks so cool layered over a flannel shirt or a hoodie. We love the all seasons aspect of our vests. Perfect for spring and fall and if you’re lucky enough to live somewhere with warmer winters, you’ll be good to go through the colder months, too.

Thumbhole Shirt for Girls | Appaman

Thumbhole Raglan Tee in Racing Red: If she doesn’t already have a thumbhole shirt in her wardrobe, you’re missing out on a cool kids trend that’s also super functional for the winter. No more bunched up sleeves when putting on her coat, plus the sleeves also cover her hands to keep them warm.

Boys Sweats Appaman

Gym Sweats for Boys in Clementine: A good pair of sweatpants is an essential in his wardrobe. Why not make these old school style gym sweats in a gorgeous shade of orange part of his weekly rotation?

Appaman New Years Style Get FancyGet Fancy
There’s nothing quite like seeing a kid all snazzed up in their Sunday best and we don’t see any reason to wait until a fancy occasion either. We love a boy who wears a bowtie with a shirt and jeans or a girl who sports a casual tee or sweatshirt with a frilly skirt and combat boots. And our fancy-ish faux fur coat (a North West style favorite) happens to look good with everything!

Appaman Confetti Skirt

Girls Confetti Skirt: This cool girls skirt will be a hit no matter what style she chooses to go with up top. A funky logo tee or a thumbhole shirt both look super cute when paired with our ultra popular Confetti Skirt in Ink Blue. For bonus points, we say go with combat boots or high-tops.

Boys Logo Bow tie | Appaman

Boys Bow Tie: Black tie events need not be the only time for him to tie one on–especially when the bowtie has an easy peasy adjustable hook and eye closure. From school picture day to family dinners on the town, a bow tie is an exceptionally stylish look for little boys.

Faux Fur Coat Appaman

Faux Fur Coat in Cameo Pink: This coat has become something of a fashion icon thanks to a certain member of the Kardashian/West clan sporting it around town. We can all take a page from North West’s book and make a resolution to make every day a fashion moment–regardless of where we’re going.

Appaman Fashion Resolution Break the RulesBreak the Rules
The most important fashion rule when it comes to kids style? There are no rules! Kids are allowed–and encouraged–to mix prints, colors and patterns with abandon. We love the effortlessly cool style that kids are born with. Let them have fun with their wardrobes. When you give them the right building blocks, like a classic pair of kids jeans, a cool vintage-inspired jacket for boys or fun stretchy pants for girls, every outfit they choose will inevitably look cool–and that’s something they can carry with them throughout the new year!

Celebrating New Year’s Eve With Kids: How to Get to Midnight With No Meltdowns

December 23, 2015 in Holiday Style

New Years Eve Ideas Kids | Appaman

New Year’s Eve is a very different experience once you have kids. The notion of a see-where-the-night-takes-you plan is out the window when little ones are part of the celebration. Instead, a structured evening is the best approach. But it doesn’t  mean you still can’t have fun! Plan little surprises throughout the evening for them and plan on lots of snacks and probably a few yawns. If all else fails, you can always rent the Minion movie and pop some popcorn. Here, some fun ideas and activities for celebrating New Year’s Eve with kids.

Appaman New Years Eve Outfits Girls

DIY Noise Makers
No question, one of the best parts about New Year’s Eve for kids is the fact you get to make some noise! Sure there are countless horns, blowers and the like you can pick up at a party store, but why not make use out of some bubble wrap sitting in your basement? We love this fun tip from Martha Stewart. Paint the flat side of the bubble with a festive colored marker and put a white runner or some white paper underneath. Then when it’s time to make some noise, let the little ones jump to their heart’s content.

Ballon Pop Countdown
Blow up balloons for every hour–or half hour–you’ll be celebrating and let the kids pop them themselves. If the kids are going to stay up until midnight, create balloons for every 15 minutes starting at 11:00pm.

Mocktail Hour
Get kids in the New Year’s Eve spirit with alcohol-free spirits. Sparkling apple cider is a no-brainer, but we’re into the idea of creating a signature mocktail for the evening. An Appaman favorite is the Tom & Jerry, where you spoon a big heap of beaten egg and sugar batter over a cup of hot water. Kids love it because they basically get a cup of sticky drinkable sugar.

Photo Booth Time
You’d be hard pressed to find a kid that doesn’t love dress-up time. Create a fun DIY photo booth with a bunch of funny props and costumes then put up a white bed sheet for the backdrop. Have the adults take turns snapping pics. Not only is it a blast for the kids, but you’ll have some awesome pics to commemorate the night.

New Year's Eve Party Kids Outfits | Appaman

New Years Eve Outfit Ideas for Kids
As a rule, if it sparkles, it’s New Year’s Eve worthy! But if your little girl is not so into sparkle, we love the idea of pairing a tuxedo jacket over a tuxedo blouse with a pair of pants or even skinny jeans. For more traditional girlie-girls, let her ring in 2016 in a fun and festive dress, like the Appaman Confetti Dress or our groovy Mod Dress. Boys can get into the act by adding a cool pair of suspenders and a bowtie to jeans and a button down shirt. He can also get major style points for wearing a sharp blazer over his favorite graphic tee.

Meet the Newest Appaman Staffers!

December 12, 2015 in Appaman News

Appaman's newest staffers

In recent months, we’ve welcomed a few new faces here at Team Appaman, and it’s high time we introduce you to the newest members of our crew. As a small company, we’re a sum of our parts and want our fans and customers to get to know who is working hard together behind the scenes to bring your favorite Appaman gear from an idea to a shoppable, wearable and adorable product:

Lisa Christiano Appaman

Lisa Christiano (Wholesale Account Manager)
When our friend Jenna headed back home to her native Texas, Lisa came on board, bringing a longtime love of fashion and a retail background to the wholesale side of Appaman. Lisa is from Rockland County (but moving to Jersey City with her fluffy little dog, Ghost) and loves to read, write, travel, and watch movies. She is always down for some serious Harry Potter chat. But be warned that she’s a loyal Gryffindor before getting into a debate about the best Hogwarts house.

Danielle Civil

Danielle Civil  (Production/Design Assistant)
Remember Intern Dani from our Intern Q&A? Well, she’s back! Dani was such a great intern that we insisted on snatching her back up as a full-time employee as soon as she graduated from the University of Delaware, where she earned a a degree in apparel design and a minor in entrepreneurial business. Dani is from the suburbs of Philly, and loves animals (particularly sloths and manatees, but she has cats, turtles, and fish of her own), travel, photography, yoga, chai tea lattes, and Game of Thrones. Dani has had her sights set on the fashion biz for a long time. In her fifth grade yearbook she predicted that she’d be a fashion designer. Good thinking, fifth grade Dani!

Valerie Schwall

Valerie Schwall (Girls Designer)
It’s a basic requirement that all Appaman employees must love dogs, but for Valerie, it’s an interest that is particularly career relevant! When Valerie was younger, she decided to teach herself to sew by creating clothing and accessories for her dog. Soon after, she applied and was accepted to fashion school with a sewing portfolio composed entirely of dog clothing. At FIT, she expanded her interest to human clothing but still loves making beautiful wardrobes for her fur child, Meatball, who dresses better than many people. Valerie hails from New Paltz, a hippie town in upstate New York, where she gained a soft spot for tie dye. You’ll usually catch her in her signature head-to-toe black, except for when she and Meatball decide to wear matching holiday outfits.
