Appaman loves Pinterest, especially when it comes to sharing our inspiration behind our design process.
Check out our new boards, where we’ve been collecting images of the back-to-school style throughout the ages, including the greasers and cheerleaders of Rydell High, the sophisticated pleats and tailoring of a New England prep school, the military jackets and flannel of your favorite tough-on-the-outside punk and grunge kids.

It’s that time of year again, peeps! The day we release our new Fall collection on Appaman.com is fast approaching, so after you set your alarms to July 15th, take a look at our new video, a behind-the-scenes look at our Fall/Winter ’13 catalog photoshoot in DUMBO, Brooklyn.
This season’s collection is a our tribute to iconic American school style. We were inspired by the refined look of prep school cool, the sporty comfort of vintage varsity gear and the edgy, rebellious spirit of punk fashion.
Of course, Appaman kids can be found rocking their own personal style about anywhere on campus: shootin’ hoops on the playground, cheering from the bleachers, making music with the band, testing theories in the lab, or break dancing in the parking lot. We made a mix-and-match collection so you can make these looks your own, and be confined to just one style.
Once again, we’d like to thank videographer Mike Canzoniero for his cinematic skills and Boots for contributing original music.
Check out the video below, then scroll down to take a look at some photos of our Fall ’13 favorites:
Available July 15th on Appaman.com; Currently available through many of our awesome retailers.

Today is a bittersweet day at Appaman HQ as we bid farewell to a much beloved member of our team as she takes the next step in her career. Summer Walker, our amazing production manager, is moving on to follow her dream full time, and we would be crushed if we weren’t SO DARN EXCITED for her and all the plans she has in the works. (We can’t wait to spill the beans when it’s time!)
Summer has been an integral part of Appaman’s success over the past five years, working right along side Lynn and Harald to grow the company into what it is today. Everyone from our sales reps and boutique owners to our factories and shipping companies has worked with Summer and knows what an awesome lady she is – warm, friendly, with business savvy to boot. In addition to her professional expertise, she has grace and moxie in spades and truly epitomizes the adventurous spirit that Appaman is all about.
Appaman HQ will not be the same in Summer’s absence, but we know that this is just the beginning of a long and successful career, so we’re smiling.
(Plus, she promised to come hang out with us later.)
Adieu, Summer, and come back soon for another Pizza Friday!
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to intern at Appaman HQ? We sat down with Jihaeng, a very talented young lady who was gracious enough to spend this past semester as we developed the Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Read on to find out what she worked on during her Appaman internship, her advice for students going into fashion design, plus her tips on personal style…

Is there any palette more inspirational than that of Mother Nature herself? For our Spring/Summer 2013 collection, we were inspired by the blissful beauty of the ocean, where all it takes is sand, a surfboard, and a little sun to make a truly perfect day from sunrise to sunset.
We took the natural ombres from the sea and the sky to make great color options for beach bum boys and girls.

Back in January, Appaman HQ grew by one more. This is Jenna Timmermann, who came to NYC by way of Fort Worth, Texas. And can we just say, are we ever glad she decided to come up north. She’s smart, funny, incredibly organized, and a great addition to our staff. (She also says “y’all” a lot, which we just love.)
Jenna works side-by-side with Alyssa (literally, their desks are right next to each other) and together, they form an ultra-organized, rag-tag duo that works with our boutique wholesale accounts and our reps around the country. You may also meet Jenna at the showroom, or in the Appaman booth at one of the trade shows — she is a wiz at planning and making sure that the Appaman sales team is prepped with everything they need.
Great to have you on board, Jenna!
On April 23, 2003, Appaman launched its very first collection. What began as a tiny little t-shirt operation based in Harald and Lynn Husum’s Brooklyn apartment has grown over the years into the kids’ fashion brand you know and love. Each season, we’ve added new pieces to our collection and expanded our range of design.

While our team has expanded, and Harald is no longer screen printing our tees himself (that‘s him in the photo above, making Appaman’s first print) we’re still as hands-on as ever. We put just as much care into creating each new piece as we did on Day 1, so that the kids who wear our clothes (and the grown-ups who buy them) love our threads just as much as we do.
And, of course, we wouldn’t be where we are today if it weren’t for our loyal fans. So, from everyone at Appaman HQ, we say…
Here are some photos from the Appaman vault…outtakes and catalog shots from our first collection ever! My, how things have changed…
