Appaman Star Style
Celebrity kids are loving their Appaman clothes for summer! The streets of NYC are full of Appaman fans, including some famous citizens. Sasha Schreiber (son of Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts) shows his Appaman style in our Sea Monster T-shirt. We love how he pairs our lightweight tee with cool summer shoes. All of our kids clothes are designed and made with love in NYC and our graphic boys tees are no exception. We made our summer kids tees with a super soft cotton, which is great for beating the summer heat while still looking cool.

Summer in the City: The Best Things to Do in NYC With Kids

July 14, 2016 in NYC

Summer in NYC | Appaman

Summer is one of our favorite seasons in New York City. Since many people clear out of the city on the weekends, it’s the perfect time to take in the flavor without having to fight the crowds. The only problem is choosing where to go first. New York City has so many choices of fun summertime activities for kids, that it’s hard to make that choice. We honed in on the top five coolest things to do in NYC with kids this summer. Our summer in the city bucket list starts here:

Museum of Ice Cream | Appaman blog

1. Museum of Ice Cream
This summer, New York City gets its first museum devoted entirely to the yummy frozen dessert everyone screams for – ice cream! The Museum of Ice Cream pops up in the Meatpacking District on July 29 through August 31st. Expect a rainbow sprinkle pool for kids to “swim” in, an ice cream sandwich swing, a chocolate room and, of course, lots of ice cream to sample!

Central Park with Kids | Appaman

2. Get lost in Central Park
There is an endless amount of fun kids activities in Central Park, but we love the idea of heading into the 843 acre park with no solid plan. From the animals in the Central Park Zoo to model boat sailing on the conservatory water to the awesome playgrounds, it’s easy to spend a day “getting lost” in the park.

New York Hall of Science | Appaman

3. Play at the New York Hall of Science
While the Hall of Science is a blast all year round, their super-cool outdoor playground is only open in the summer months. Expect sand pits, water play, fog machines and awesome slides–all of which incorporate scientific principles.

Smorgasburg

4. Pig out at Smorgasburg
From artisan donuts to locally-sourced tacos, there’s a never ending array of yumminess at Brooklyn’s famed weekly summer food fest known as Smorgasburg. Teach your kids the meaning of homemade by exposing them to the hundreds of local food vendors that take great pride in their creations. You’ll feel good giving the kids french fries when they’re handmade in Brooklyn,  made with only premium ingredients, never frozen and dipped in gourmet sauce.

Governor's Island Slides

5. Slide on down on Governor’s Island
Summer in the city would not be complete without a trip to Governor’s Island! While old faves like laying in the hammocks, renting bikes and picnicking are all awesome activities on Governor’s Island, we can’t wait to try out the new Slide Hill, opening July 19th. Slide Hill is found in the new Hills section of the island will be four fun and twisty slides–including one that’s almost 60 feet long.

Summer shorts, graphic tees, rash guards and swimsuits are a must for summer fun in the city. Shop Appaman summer kids clothes now to make sure your brood is prepared for some non-stop action!

Summer Family Vacations with Appaman

It’s summer time and the living is easy! At Appaman HQ, we love summer for so many reasons, but family vacations has got to be the top on our list. There’s nothing like getting out of town for a bit to help reinvigorate and recharge while also getting in some precious family bonding time. From the lakes of Northern Michigan and the sandy beaches of the Carolina and New Jersey coastlines to the rustic charm of New York State, Appaman staffers love traveling around the country to seek out their warm and happy places. It just goes to show, you don’t have to travel too far to find your own slice of summer heaven. Here, team Appaman share their favorite summer destinations for a perfect family vacation.

Summer Travel Hilton Head Appaman

Hilton Head, South Carolina
Hilton Head is a wonderful vacation spot for people of all ages! In addition to the miles and miles of beautiful beaches, there’s the Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge and the Sea Pines Forest Preserve, numerous biking trails, museums and boat and helicopter tours, dolphin and whale watching excursions, lots of great shopping & restaurants, fishing & kayaking, ziplines, water sports and adorable coastal towns to explore along the way.  I wouldn’t recommend going though without a pair of Appaman sunglasses, one of our many straw sun hats for kids and an Appaman rash guard or coverup to protect your skin while you’re out all day in the sun! -Kathleen Reardon, production manager

Long Beach Island, New Jersey
Commonly known as “LBI,” Long Beach Island is a top summer destination for those in the New York Metro area. If you see people with “Exit 63” bumper stickers on their cars, this is where they are headed..and yup, you guessed it, it is Exit 63 on the Garden State Parkway! I’ve been going since my teen years and I love LBI because it’s a great family- oriented, friendly, low-key beach town, but if you were in the mood for one of those wild beach bar nights, you can do that too!  (A trolley very nicely runs up and down the island in the evenings in case your night gets a little more wild than you planned!). The beaches are clean and well maintained. All the water sports and activities you could imagine are available, and there is even a water park! Bike rentals by the hour, day, or week.  Mini golf, ice cream and seafood galore, and don’t miss out on Fantasy Island amusement park. Tons of great shopping all over the island, but definitely head to Bay Village and the surrounding streets for some of the best gift and apparel shoppes–and fudge, naturally! Another fun stop is The Showplace Ice Cream Parlor, an audience interactive ice cream shoppe. Get ready to sing, play instruments, or act out a crazy scene..and have the best ice cream of your life!  And you can’t leave the island without hitting up The Chicken or the Egg (or the Chegg as the locals call it) for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or late night snack. – Stephanie, sales rep

Suttons Bay Michigan

Suttons Bay / Leelenau County, Northern Michigan
Many East Coasters don’t know it, but Northern Michigan is the stuff that summertime dreams are made of. Michigan has more coastline than any other state in the U.S. aside from Alaska, so there are tons of affordable places to have a lazy, laid back beach vacation, and you’re never far from an inland lake or state park. You can do it all: Swim in the waves, build a sandcastle on a beach, go exploring in a forest, eat ice cream at a parlor, run down a sand dune, jump off a dock, paddle a canoe, go fishing down a river. I’m headed to a cottage in Suttons Bay, a little town in the Leelenau Peninsula (Michigan’s “pinky”) that’s pretty much perfect.  -Katie Luscombe, e-commerce director

Fishkill Farms Appaman
Dutchess County, Upstate New York
We head Upstate all year long, but summer is our favorite season! There are tons of fun things to do, like cherry picking at Fishkill Farms (pictured above) or peach picking at the end of August, finding watering holes, and hiking on the Appalachian trail. – Lynn Husum, co-founder of Appaman
