Jennifer chose to donate to Hope North. She believes that children have the right to education, medical care and a thriving childhood in a safe environment. In Northern Uganda, tens of thousands of children have been abducted to serve as soldiers in a brutal civil war. This area is one of the most underreported humanitarian tragedies to date. Hope North was created to give education, vocational training, community, hope and home to these young refugees, orphans and former child soldiers. Bravo to the Hope North Founder Okello Sam and to Jennifer for helping create awareness to this extremely important cause!
An amazingly inspiring New York moment for everyone involved. Team Appaman had a blast doing to “tunnel to tower” run on Sunday. We high fived most of NY’s Finest and completed all 5Ks without a single whine!! Here are some more Shotz from the day :
We were so honored to be nominated and then win our first Cribsie Award. We won in the Ultimate Street-Cool Appeal category in a fierce competition. Cribsie Awards are the newly anointed Oscars of the parenting industry. More than 135,500 votes were cast to determine the 60 best products and services for babies and tots. We want to give a shout out to all of you that voted and helped us win this very prestigious award. Winning is so much fun…just sayin’
We don’t like to toot our own horn but Appaman hit Hollywood this past week in a big way and we can’t help but want to share the excitement. We were asked to showcase the line on Access Hollywood Live. It was all parts terrifying and exciting and the results were rewarding. So sit back and check out our little fashion show…
Our Appaman team in Hong Kong are at it again! To launch the line at Harvey Nichols they are thinking BIG picture. They wrapped a tram and postered bus stops throughout the city. There is nothing cooler than seeing your brand flying down the street with people peeking out the windows.
Harald just returned from an incredibly successful trip to Tokyo.
We were invited to participate in the Playtime Tradeshow in Tokyo and jumped at the opportunity. Our distributor BREEZE,INC. couldn’t have been more welcoming. They showed us around, fed us amazing and interesting meals, introduced us to many new accounts and educated us in the ways of the Japanese.
We are so grateful to be back in business with BREEZE and are thrilled to introduce Appaman’s Fall 2011 collection to the Japanese merchants. They were enthusiastic about the collection and are excited to get it into the stores.
Although Harald is still churning out great graphics and his flare for fashion hasn’t dimmed, he felt it was time for some fresh ideas at Appaman.
Enter Susan Kay. She hails from Piedmont, California, now a proud resident of Fort Greene, Brooklyn. She recently graduated from Parsons School of Design with the Childrenswear Designer of the Year award to show for it. She started drawing as a little girl and designed her first pair of shoes with the hopes that Santa Claus would manufacture them. He unfortunately didn’t come through with the shoes but delivered a dollhouse that she said was “a little disappointing”. We are hoping to one day manufacture those shoes and show Santa Claus that dreams happen right here on the LES.
Please welcome Susan Kay to the Appaman Team. We are so excited, and have already glimpsed at Fall 2012 and it’s spot-on Style!
Welcome Cristina Polo the newest addition to Appaman HQ. Cristina is smart as a whip and quirky to boot. She is a wizard with spread sheets and warehouse banter. She hails from Brooklyn, loves the ghoulish and gruesome world of costume make-up and can make a mean banana pudding. Her favorite movie is Kill Bill and her hidden talent is bringing smiles to the frustrated with her pick me up post it note drawings.
She can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Call, introduce yourself and give her a true Appaman welcome hug!!
Cristina chose to donate to the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (DMRF). Cristina has a nephew that has recently been diagnosed with dystonia. It is a movement disorder that causes the muscles to contract and spasm involuntarily. Dystonia causes varying degrees of disability and pain. There is ongoing research to better manage and treat this disorder and this is what Cristina hopes will help her sweet nephew in the future.
**PLEASE NOTE : Our event has been pushed to Jan 7th, 2012 at 12noon!
To kick off our 7 Weeks of Giving, we thought we’d throw an event and choose a charity that touches everyone. We have all had brushes with cancer affecting someone close and dear to our hearts. So we figured we would throw a family fun event and give 100% of the proceeds back into cancer research. Our charity of choice is Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) for Childhood Cancer.
Our event is called ’1st Annual Appaman Gowanus Grand Prix’. A family fun event to kick off the Holiday season in full support of a great foundation that provides funding of 200+ projects leading towards cures and improved quality of life for children with cancer. Our goal is to raise at least $1,000. You can check our progress as well as donate HERE. If you would like to know more about our event, you can visit HERE.
